The month of July has come and gone, rolling by in a blur of spinning wheels and quiet roads. It brought record-breaking heat with humid mornings and sun-drenched roads and trails. I found myself both challenged and recharged by the rides. Whether I was chasing sunrise or squeezing in a quick loop before supper, the miles added up.
Last month, I logged a total of 516.9 miles, averaging 116.7 miles per week, or 16.7 miles per day. Some days were long, meditative Zone 2 training rides, attempting to build my endurance for an upcoming gravel race in Wahalla, South Carolina. Other rides were short and simply about showing up in the saddle. One of the standout rides was a 50-mile solo ride on the backroads of North Coffee County. As I pedaled down the familiar pavement and gravel roads, I fell in love with the sport of cycling all over again. Another memorable ride was the first ever “Bikes and Bibles: Fun Ride” along the Douglas Greenway Trail on July 5th. It was a great time of fun and fellowship. These kinds of rides remind me why I do this. It’s not just for fitness, but for faith, focus, and freedom.
Of course, not every mile came easy. July’s heat caused me to question my sanity at times. Still the miles felt meaningful. Cycling continues to be a tool God uses to slow me down, to listen, and to reflect. This month, I was reminded that perseverance doesn’t always look fast, but it does look faithful.
As I look ahead to August, I’m hoping to maintain this consistency. Whatever the numbers say next time, I want the journey to keep shaping my body, mind, and soul. Thanks for riding with me here at “The Pedaling Preacher” blog. If you logged some miles this month too, drop a comment and share your favorite moment from the road or trial.
