“The ugly fact is books are made of books. “

As I posted earlier, I’m writing a New Testament Survey for the everyday believer. The aim is to create a resource that church members will feel comfortable using when they are studying God’s Word. This project prompted me to do some research, and I’d like to share some books I found to be helpful.
1. Encountering the New Testament by Elwell and Yarbrough
I selected this book to be my textbook for my introduction to the New Testament course through Brewton Parker College. I chose it for its conciseness, and I think my students are enjoying it.
Elwell, Walter A. and Robert W. Yarbrough. Encountering the New Testament: A Historical and Theological Survey. Grand Rapids: Baker Academic. 2022.
2. New Testament Survey by Tenney
Tenney’s survey is an older one, but I discovered his writing to be very accessible. So, I added it to my shortlist.
Tenney, Merrill C. New Testament Survey: Revised. Grand Rapids: Wm. B Eerdmans. 1985.
3. The Cradle, The Cross, and the Crown by Kostenberger, Kellum, and Quarles
This book is a magnum opus in the survey category! Its size, and some of the content, can be a bit intimidating for the beginner. However, for the student that wants a little more, this is the book for you.
Kostenberger, Andreas J. et al. The Cradle, The Cross, and the Crown. 2nd Ed. Brentwood: B&H Academic. 2016.
