Kevin W. Bounds

Author, minister and cyclist

A couple of weeks ago, I came across a video on YouTube by Ryan Holiday. In the video, he discussed the concept of choosing a word to define the year ahead. This word acts as a guiding theme for the entire year. He shared an example from his own experience, where his chosen word was “less.” He explained that in the previous year, he had taken on too many commitments and felt overwhelmed. Upon hearing this, I immediately resonated with the idea of “less” being the perfect word for me in 2025.

There’s a famous quote by David Allen that goes, “You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.” Understanding this, I realize the importance of being selective with opportunities, so I can dedicate more time to my writing to reach my full potential. This requires doing fewer things and prioritizing how I spend my time to develop my craft. Writing is important to me. Therefore, I am adjusting my schedule in order to fulfill my most important responsibilities by committing to “less.” By doing so, I am actively shaping the life I aspire to live.

If you were to choose a word, what would it be?
