Scripture Reading
Genesis 8; Matthew 8; Ezra 8; Acts 8
Key Verse
“So we fasted and sought our God concerning this matter, and He listened to our entreaty.” (Ezra 8:23)
Reflection
The caravan, now tightly packed with supplies and equipment, stood ready for their journey. But there was one last preparation. Ezra, anticipating the lengthy and challenging journey from Babylon to Jerusalem, asked the people to fast and implore God for safe passage. Ezra knew the king of Persia would give an escort if asked, but knew that would send the wrong message. They would pray and trust God to answer.
The theme of God answering the sincere prayers of believers appears throughout the readings for today. God answered Ezra and the children of Israel (Ezra 8:21-23). Jesus answered a leper’s request for cleansing (Matt. 8:1-4) and a centurion’s plea for his servant (Matt. 8:5-13). God was answering the Apostles’ in giving the Spirit to the Samaritans (Acts 8:14-17). This was all because God, a God who keeps His promises, remembers His people (Genesis 8:1).

What situation are you facing in life? Have you sought the Lord and trusted Him to answer? Faithful seekers will find Him.
Prayer
